A dating app that matches your vibe!

My project is about making a mobile dating application, that focuses more on a person's vibe and the cultivation of that vibe, that will lead to matches with similar vibes and ideas of how they perceive themselves. The idea behind this is to highlight the notion of how the vibe matters over appearances and qualifications when it comes to finding genuine connections.

This application includes the swipe feature which is synonymous with dating apps, but here the user will
be swiping right on the vibe they are interested in and once the vibe 'matches', the user can choose to know more about the vibe they matched with. The agenda is not to simply find someone to date, it is to find someone the user can connect with regardless of how things may progress. It is designed to be an application that connects people and fosters interesting and fulfilling connections, no matter what the label.

All The States

Creating the profile

This phase of the user journey will be about creating their account with the specific personal preferences they have - their name, their gender, their pronouns, their sexuality, what they are looking for, their age, their age range, their image (for verification), and their location. Once all those questions have been answered, the user moves on to the curation of their vibe.

Creating the vibe

This phase of the user journey will be about creating their vibe. The user will be asked to fill out another questionnaire - this time more abstract and personal about their likes, dislikes, colours, aesthetic choices, and so on. The series of questions are more about their personality and their abstract qualities. The user will input their answers in the form of words separated by commas so that the AI can interpret them as keywords and will use these words to create a set image grid.

After the user clicks on ‘generate’, a set of images will be generated, and a panel will open up which the user can interact with to edit the images and the grid as per the user’s wishes. Once that is set, the user can generate their vibe and further start swiping on the vibes the app shows them. They can even explore a person’s vibe in depth before deciding whether to match or not.

The Brand

The word ‘akin’ means ‘of similar nature or character.’ The idea was to represent the word ‘Vibe’ and the essence of that word, using another word.

This app is trying to bring together people and form genuine connections through their vibes. People would like to match with others who have similar vibes or complimentary vibes. This is why the name of this application is ‘akin’. It also has a nice ring to it - it’s short, memorable, and cute!

Key Problems:

There is an increased judgment on dating apps based on appearance, profile info, professional info, and educational backgrounds
Profile photos lie and it is very easy to be persuaded by a person’s appearance
There is a lack of genuine and lasting connections
Lack of personality and vibe representation

Goals:

To create a space where people can visually express their personality, their likes and interests, and their overall vibe
I want to remove the idea of judgment based on what a person looks like. Instead, you vibe with someone who may be a good match for your vibe
A safe space for people to interact and curate their individuality and uniqueness

The Solution

Create an app that lets you curate a vibe and find vibes that may match you
Once the vibes match, you move on to more personal matters and decide whether you want to move forward.

If that is not a match, there is potential to become friends and create genuine connections no matter the outcome.
